Air comp's over now.
So are you guys happy that it's over?
Or sad that we didn't win anything?
Whatever it is, don't think too much about our loss alright.
It is still, our first year participating in a RC competition.
It's okay to lose if we aim to do better for the next air comp!
So...
Your IC Leslie and I will be depending on you guys to bring back the eagle next year alright.

So prepare yourselves.

Ok Guys, I am your IC Leslie.

As Air Competition is around the corner, we are going to train real soon after NOMAD so yea, get prepared..

Messages will be sent to the Bravos for their training dates and if anyone wants more trainings or need to ask about anything, feel free to tag here or find me. ( For additional trainings, please inform us directly with at least THREE days in advance. )

Next, for those in NOMAD, we understand about your commitment towards NOMAD therefore we would like those Bravos with NOMAD but had recieved our messages to come find us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to reconfirm the training dates in which you all can make it to.

Finally, I would like to say that all Bravos who are participating in Air Competition would be requested to attend AS MUCH trainings as possible so as to ensure that we have sufficient skills to get the eagle to our school.

For those chosen, do not slack and think that you all 100% + Chop will be an instructor..there are still furthur challenges which you all will sure meet in the course and after the course..Remember, This badge does not signify that you all are one stage higher than the rest, but only that you all are equipped with one more skill to furthur push the rest to greater heights.

K two big events, the 1st is BAWC

BAWC stands for Basic Aero Wing Course..three Bravos will be selected to go for this course..Other than the "Stone Wing" which should not be your aim of this course, the Bravos will be proven able to fly RC planes proficiently and be able to conduct Normal Aero-modelling Trainings..Other than that, the BAWC flyers will continue to the Advanced Aero-modelling Course (AAWC) which will furthur push the flying skills as well as the air knowledge..

However, Those who are not chosen for this second phrase BAWC, please do not be disheartened as there will be a third phrase BAWC at the end of the year..

Furthurmore, There might be a chance for some Bravos to fly with the NCOs for NOMAD this year but this idea is still tentative..

Next, Air Competition..

Hopefully this year, we will get FIRST.

For Alphas, there will be Simulator Events to complete with..

For Bravos, It will be Spot Landing..

And For NCOs, there will be Pylon Racing..

So for alphas, there will be training on simulator for speed, turnings and endurance..

For Bravos, Buddy Cording will start real soon so get mentally prepared..the plane you all will be flying is the Cessna 747..which is a trainer plane..you all will be trained not only on speed,turnings and endurance but also on landings..

For NCOs, not much to say..you all should know what to do so all i could say is, Good Luck.

Farewell, aeromodelling!

Hey aeromodellers ! This is going to be my final post in this blog, so hopefully more people will visit this blog and read this post.

Alright, I know I am going to ROD tomorrow, but I have these "last words"/encouragement for all of you. Let me first talk about my cadet life and how it was like for me.

NCC Air was my 2nd choice for CCA and I was one of the last cadet to step into Alpha life, together with MSG Hui Min. I clearly remember those days when we had to fall in at the foyer every Friday and how much I used to dread it. Standing for around 20mins every Friday for flag raising did not appeal to me at all. I also remember my affirmation ceremony was in the AVA room and I still keep the little booklet for that year. It still has my signature on it and dated 2007. I wasn't a very outstanding cadet throughout my years and I even had the intention to give up this CCA at one point in time. But I persevered on and found these other 21 platoonmates who went through thick and thin with me. It all seemed like yesterday. But 3 years have passed and I will be walking through the door out of NCC. I was also very fickle-minded with my elective, whether I wanted PDS or Aeromodelling. It was a very difficult decision for me to make then because I wanted to be more "manly" from PDS while I also like to "slack" in aeromodelling. This is a misconception of the electives. Whether you are in Aeromodelling or PDS, it is the SAME. It is how much you love your elective and partly how the elective in-charge makes in fun for you all. It is true that PDS is more physically demanding than Aeromodelling, but Aeromodelling has its level of difficulty too (Theory, flying etc.)

I always tell your Sgt Choon Kian how time flies and I still vividly remember how we flew the fms simulator in the computer lab last time. And we'd always "show off" stunts and see who can perform better ones. And I'd always end up showing Inverted Flight. I was selected to go for the Aeromodelling Instructor Course in 2008 (last time only got LC) and i graduated and since helped out for aeromodelling. I flew for Air Competition in 2008, although I did not win. (Last time still noob :x)

That was just a portion of my cadet life, but I can remember these more clearly for I-don't-know what reason. Here is my encouragement to all of you.

For those of you who are reading this, don't give up on this CCA because I don't regret walking down this path. Yes, there will be times where you might feel like giving up because of various reasons, but why not just grit your teeth and hang in there? Just keep the NCC song close to your heart and it will serve as a motivation for you. (Go listen to the lyrics). Also, if you want to achieve your desired post, aim for it and work on it. (Especially applies to Posting Camp). Your efforts will be recognised. I also hope that you all will enjoy and love aeromodelling as much as I do and did. Some of you all have been asking me about how I picked up kite flying and how did I manage to go for the Pearce Airbase attachment last year. These are my answers:

1) Kite flying: I only picked up kite flying in mid December 2009 to fly for CCA Open House 2010. Btw, this kite flying is a hobby that I enjoy and not a tool that I use to "attract attention".

2) Pearce Airbase attachment: If you want to know how to go for this course, go and read up on my "Pearce Airbase Attachment 2009" post below. It is mentioned at the last portion. Hope to see aeromodellers in Pearce Airbase Attachment this year. Continue this tradition :D

To my aeromodelling successor Leslie, here is a challenge for you. I am challenging you to beat this :

I am NOT saying that you cannot do it, this is my challenge to you as the next Aero IC. Work hard for it and all the best! (Remember what position you said you could achieve? Work hard towards it!)

AAWC

Okay, I'm here to post some things about AAWC. We had visits to 2 flying clubs, Bukit Batok Flying Club and Radio Modellers Singapore.

We went to BBFC first. We were warmly welcomed by the members there, and they were nice enough to introduce the different aircrafts and heli. There, they flew jet aircraft, glider, cessna or rather E-starter. And Sir Danny flew a 3-D heli. Nice. :D

After that we took a group photo.

And these photos are taken when we arrived there. They introduced us to the table of aircrafts.

After that we went to RMS. Saw ang-mo there. o.o

The flying there was awesome.

And we had some refreshments there too. (:

Overall, it was definitely an enriching trip for us. And with those accompany of friends, it was indeed awesome! :D

And, to add on to Leslie's post, please work hard for aeromodelling as well. We need to maintain our standard in aero! So guys, please dont get frustrated with simulator. It's an important part of RC. We need to train you to become excellent in aeromodelling!

I am your Senior Leslie by the way.

As you all know, the Charlies are taking over aero trainings from now on, so I shall just give a brief on the things we are supposed to do, the things you all WANT to learn and on and on..

k firstly, the rules (Blah,blah,blah..)

Nothing much needed from you all, just have some basic discipline (Auto tiam when seated, fall in when you all are told to and listen to the lectures even its boring..and Sean surrender your handphone when we tell you to.)

Simple..

Next, the things we all are gonna teach you..

1) Basic Flying (Buddy cord : Slave)
2) Construction
3)Theory

This is from the list of things you all want to learn so hopefully, we can teach you everything before the air competition and BAWC(Will be described furthur later)..

K, the Common mistakes made when flying..

1) Plane too far away..
2) too much thrust when landing
3)Lost in orienteering
4)Drop in altitude when turning..

Hope that you all can copy it somewhere or just remember all this..

Almost there..Now, the air competition and BAWC..

For those who want to be AIC or AI, BAWC should help..it's Basic Aeromodelling Wing Course..This course will teach you on more theory as well as more on solo flight..the minimum requirement for this course is to be able to fly Solo..and also some knowledge on aeromodelling..

Yea..so we would try to train all bravos to go for the competition then cliche a good placing this year..

Pearce Airbase Attachment 2009

Dear Aeromodellers:

This is going to be a long post about the Pearce Airbase Attachment(Perth, Western Australia) which Sir Raynor and I attended from 7-13 December 2009. I will highlight the more important parts in this post only.

Day 1 (7/12/09)

We assembled at Changi Airport Terminal 1 and took flight QF72 to Perth International Airport at 9am. Arrived at Perth International Airport at about 2.30pm (Singapore time). This trip consists of 9 cadets, 1 clt and 2 teacher officers.

After arriving at Perth International Airport, we took a chartered minibus to Pearce Airbase.

The journey took about 45mins - 1hour.

We were then allocated to our bunks after getting our own room key. (individual rooms)

After we were done with our bunk allocations, we had lunch and the rest of the day was quite slack. (It was summer in December and there are alot of irritating flies around. The sun rises early and sets quite late) One thing that was very significant during the meals is that we always have potatoes(no matter in what form). That's why we go to the gym every night :D

Day 2 (8/12/09)

Today is the start of the 4-day Pearce Airbase programme.(We have to wear our no.3 uniform everyday for the 4-day programme.) After breakfast, we took a tour around the airbase in a minibus. We got to see the planes that pilot trainees fly over there, like the PC-21 and the S211. We had lunch and headed to have a look at a PC-21 simulator

After that, we headed out of the airbase to Bullsbrook (nearest town) to buy some snacks back to bunks. We went to a supermarket to purchase them.

We then returned to the airbase for dinner. (We usually have breakfast at 7.15am, lunch at 11am and dinner at 5.30pm) On the way back, we bought ourselves some shakes :D

We bought our shakes at this station called MuzzBuzz. The shakes were really nice, especially during summer.

Back to the airbase for EODD(end-of-day-debrief) with all the other pilot trainees before dinner.

Day 3 (9/12/09)

Today's programme was more interesting because we got to get up close and personal with the PC-21 at the hangar and the flight line. We also got to have a look at a real PC-21 cockpit at the flight line.

As usual, we woke up at about 6am and changed into our no.3 uniforms before heading for breakfast. And as usual, buffet-style meals are the best, and I personally like breakfast because there is apple juice :D After that, we marched for almost 2km to the Airmen's Nest. (We have to march from point to point in the airbase) We proceeded on to the hangar, where planes are sent for servicing or repair.

The 1st person from the left is a Singaporean pilot trainee there, his name is Sharma. He volunteered to take us around and ensured our programme ran smoothly. 3 cheers for him!

After visiting the hangar, we proceeded to the flight line and had a look at the cockpit of a real PC-21, guided by an experienced Singaporean fighter pilot (shown in previous picture) that answered our questions. We wore reflective vests, to ensure that we were clearly visible to the pilots taxiing there. The pilot reminded us to check our shoes, especially between the grooves for any FOD (foreign object debris) that may get sucked into the aircraft's engine. There are no photos for the flight line programme.

Following that, we had lunch and I think we went out to Bullsbrook again and bought stuff, and shakes again :D Dinner and gym after that.

Day 4 (10/12/09)

Today is the last day of the 4-day Pearce Airbase programme, and is also the best day! Oh, i forgot to mention, it is also the last day that we had to wear no.3 uniform XD

Woke up, had breakfast and Sharma brought us to the Main Briefing Room for a start of day briefing.

Today being the last day of the 4-day Pearce Airbase programme, we presented the plaque of appreciation to the CO of 130 Squadron, LTC Michael Tan.

After the briefing, we were separated into 2 groups and took turns to go to a room to view a hardtape of a pilot trainees's flying. The hardtape is a recording of a pilot's flying in the cockpit of the PC-21 that records every movement and word he says. Sharma showed us one of the best pilot trainee's hardtape. The hardtape gives a 3D view of the pilot's route in the sky and the maneuvers he has executed. It was a real experience for us to watch the hardtape as I saw how the pilot flew and how meticulous he was.

After the viewing of the hardtape, we marched back to have lunch and marched back again. An experienced female pilot welcomed us as we got to the simulator centre. We were then led into the room where there was a dome( the simulator). The female pilot first demonstrated how to fly the simulator as well as demonstrating a few aerobatics. E.g Aileron roll, Loop and 4-point turn. Soon it was our turn to try and scroll down to let the pictures do the talking! The simulator is very realistic and I really felt like I was in a real PC-21 because the simulated image was all around.

While we were at the simulator centre, Sir Raynor had the chance to get a joyride in a PC-21. Below are pictures taken before his flight.

This was the pilot that piloted his plane. Sir Raynor had the chance to co-pilot the plane for awhile.

After the simulation session, we took some pictures in front of the flight training institute as that was the last day of the airbase programme.

Day 5 (11/12/09)

We woke up at the usual time and went for breakfast and then went back to our bunks to rest before going for our half-day city tour. We had a "marathon-daidee" session that lasted for about 3 hours plus. Went for lunch and boarded the bus to King's
Park.

After King's Park visit, we headed for the RAAF Museum.

This museum has real decomissioned war planes from World War I and II.

After about an hour, we left the museum and went to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory! :D

Free samples of White chocolate, Milk chocolate and Dark chocolate. Want to see what happens when Singaporeans go there?

Left the chocolate factory and bought our own dinner along the way and headed back to airbase for consumption. Gym and lights out.

Day 6 (12/12/09)

Last day in Australia ):

Woke up as usual, breakfast, back to bunks for marathon dai-dee, lunch and boarded the bus again for half-day city tour.

Took about an hour's ride to Fremantle and headed for Fremantle Harbour.

Stopped for some pictures and left for Fremantle Market.

Bought some souvenirs for family and friends. Saw some of the SYFC people there too. Left the market after about an hour plus.

Was told by Mr Alan that this is the Indian Ocean. Looks magnificent though.

Stopped over at a beach for some pictures. Marvellous view ! (Don't think sick)

Continued our journey to a shopping mall to shop for souvenirs and buy our own dinner.

Brought dinner back to airbase and had dinner. Gym and lights out again.

Day 7 (13/12/09)

Going back to Singapore today! Wooooo!

Woke up as usual, breakfast, went pack to our bunks to pack our luggage and remove the bedsheets. Assembled downstairs with our luggage and waited for Mr Alan.

Flight information. We're on flight QF77 to Singapore.

While we were checking in, Theodore found out that he lost his AU$60+ bag of chocolates from the chocolate factory! Hahaha ! XD Jia Jun's chocolate moisturizer for his mum was confiscated at the airport too! LOL.

Enroute to Singapore. I think I was above Indonesia... O.o

Finally back in Singapore! That was a memorable and enriching experience in Perth. For those of you who want to know how to go to Pearce. This is what you have to do.

1)Download the AI for Pearce from the NCC website and print it out
2)Fill it up and hand it in to Mr Tong
3)Get shortlisted for the interview at HQ (The more badges/achievements u have, the higher your chances)
4)Pass the interview
5)Pay $150 and bon voyage! :D

I hope that this year some of the Charlies will go because this is a rare opportunity and this proves that overseas trips in NCC(Air) is really true. Hopefully, our unit will have people going every year. Continue this tradition! :D

4th Basic Aero-modelling Wings Course

Hey there, Aero-modellers!

I'm here to tell you about the 4th BAWC Leslie and I attended from 23-25 Nov. It was a great experience!

Firstly, we reported there in no.4 uniform. Leslie thought he was late, but not. There were a lot of people outside the HQ, I walked near the gate and met up with my course mates. After chatting and waiting, we went in. We started the day with lectures. Some people seem to be knocking out during the first lecture, i was almost knocked out on the second one. After that we did simulator, I had to admit that my flying wasn't good. Leslie was alright, he 'graduated' from simulator quite fast. I was actually with this guy in Simulator 2, he improved fast and also graduated a lot before me.

There was only 3 sirs running the course, and they plan to clear all simulators within the first day, or the second day before lunch. I was on the dot, just before lunch on the second day i finished my simulator assessment. I was the first girl to be in the buddy cord, where a sir and trainee fly. It help train the trainee's real flying skills.

We had sunburn there, some became lobsters. haha. I was smart enough to go into the shade since it was not my turn to fly yet. One of the planes was nowhere to be seen/found.

There were only 3 girls in the course. All of the girl's flying sucks, but everybody finished and passed buddy cord before dinner.

Many think the girls tyco pass. :x

On the way back, bringing equipments back to the Aero-modelling Centre, I saw 4 people, 2 from Air, 2 from Land. They were having Fitness Course.

We had test after we wash up, and sort of a total debrief, since everybody finished test and flying. The third day was just out-processing. And the sirs achieved their goal: to have 100% pass in flying and theory. Indeed, nobody failed the tests! And some people passed with flying colours as well! 95.5/100 was the highest mark.

Like what Leslie said, an advice to Bravo aero-modellers: cherish the chance to practice your flying in simulator, don't play around with it. Whether you will be selected to go for the next BAWC, it will be very beneficial.

During the course, we had lots of jokes, and fun. The sirs all agreed we are bonded as a course. I'll share one okay. Once when we're marching, the timer went: lap, lap, lap, right, lap. lap, lap, lap, right! platoon echo: LAP-TOP!

Also, almost everytime we march, the platoon will echo: left right!

One of the schools say that our combined drills were better than with their own part.

It was really an enriching experience! :D

Hi.

I am Leslie and is one of the Charlies who went for the 4th BAWC course..

It spans over 3 days but the last day is actually out-processing ( Taking your certs and admin stuffs) so the actual course is from 23 to 24th of November..

The first day was spent mostly on Simulator ( Which the Bravos like..), we are supposed to fly the plane and go though a total of 4-5 tests and a final test so actually in fact, the Simulator is not so fun after all.

The second day was more of practical (And Sun-burning)..we (Me and Rowena) flew the Cessna 171..I flew from the morning while Rowena came in after Lunch.

It was interesting but hard and so I had come up with an advice of the Bravo Aeromodellers (No matter if you want to be an Aero Instructor or not.)

Practice on your Simulator at least once in two weeks so that you all can fly properly without crashing.

That is all I have to update for now. Any queries please tell us in by tagging with YOUR name in the tagboard.

4th Basic Aero-modelling Wings Course

Heyho! Just dropped by to tell more about the experiences I had during the pre-course.

7th Nov: I got to see and know people I haven't seen before in the previous course, and get along with the people i saw the previous course. We were divided into 2 groups by school, one doing construction of the plane and the other doing simulator. Leslie and I were in the construction team. Each one of us had to build a plane, but only electronics were mounted on one plane. We did not complete the construction (electronics), even though we extended the time for the day.

14th Nov: Those who have not finished their simulator were told to finish, those in construction were told to finish construction. Successfully, Leslie and I completed the mounting of electronics. We then proceeded to simulator while the simulator group proceeded to construction.

21st Nov: We tried to complete out simulator, after which we could proceed on to buddy cord, where it will be the real flying, just with a trainer and a trainee. Leslie did not come today, he went for overseas CUGC trip. Almost EVERYBODY were: "Eh, where's that vegetarian ah?" And there's this Bartley guy called Marvin couldn't stop talking about Leslie. The first half of the day before lunch, he kept saying he wanted vegetarian food. After lunch, we were divided again, to complete what we have not. 8 people including me were sitting outside the Aero-modelling Centre waiting for simulator people to come out and we could then continue on our simulator. Meanwhile, we sat there and chatted non-stop. Again, I was the only girl there. :/ So we chatted and chatted, until Sir Farhan told us to go into the room for simulator. Quite a bonding session?

It will be the actual course the day after tomorrow. I need more practice on my simulator! So for the Bravos, please, if there's a chance, train your simulator well. It really helps! :D

Hey Aeromodellers!

Just to let you all know, LC (Line-controlled) planes have phased out recently. So aeromodelling will only be doing RC from now on. We are proposing to buy RC planes or IFOs (the flying kite that u saw during your cca orientation). But we need all of you to chip in some money. It will be about $10 per person. (Includes Part As,Bs and Cs) Please ask your parents for permission before u hand in the money. Without your parent's consent, DO NOT hand the $10 in.

Hope that all of you will chip in to the aeromodelling unit. Since you all want to have hands-on rc so much, this is the time :D Do ask asap! Those Part B and A aeromodellers who are reading this, remind the Part A aeromodellers to tag about the last aero training or else there will NOT be any fun activities in the future.

This is your Senior Leslie posting , I noticed a dip in attendance for the aero trainings so I hope you all can 'pull' them back.

Then about the lecture and games during your most recent training ( the one where me and your Senior Rowena was made IC ) Please give feedback on it and even better, give us ways to improve it. Thanks.

Of course, this can only be achieved with all the hard work, time and sacrifices put in by all our competitors.

From Part A Airplane design category, Haoze, Amiel, Hassanul and Benedict, who made awesome coolsome planes.

From the Part B L/C category, Team Bullfinch (Syazwan and Jasmine) who beat many teams to make it to the finals and Team Bolt (Leslie and Junkai).

From Part C L/C category, Team Condor (Choon Kian and Zhao Xiang) and Team Crane (Rowena and Kian Sam).

From the R/C category, Yin Onn and James, who flew awesome coolsome.

Kudos to Zhao Xiang, James and Kiansam who only had a few months to learn aero-modelling and job well done to Rowena, Leslie and Junkai who helped to untangle the lines. (Hahaa.) Also, thumbs up to our loyal spectators who came and supported us! I hope you have all learnt something from this experience. We have all made aero-modelling history and brought glory to our unit. Once again, WELL DONE.

3rd Aero-Modelling Instructor Course (AIC)

The 3rd Aero-Modelling Instructor Course was conducted on 22nd-24th June at Amoy Quee NCC HQ.

1st day:
We had to report as early as 8am in the morning and the entrance was flooded by soon-to-be-specs and soon-to-be-aero-instructors. After signing in, we proceeded to Block 225 to fall in and wait for the others to come. The heavy barang-barangs were crowding all around our warm bodies. We were assigned our bunks and told to put our barang-barangs in our respective bunks. Afterwhich, we fell in downstairs. I couldn't remember I was the I/C on the first day or second day. We had meals and theory. The Principles of Flight test was tricky in few questions. a few of them we haven't heard of them before. We were supposed to go out to fly when suddenly Cat 1 appeared. How irritating! We therefore had to go to the Theatrette to revise the slides. When Cat 1 alert was off and we could go back to fly, Sgt Khairul came in to call out several cadets. We were supposed to go for our trial shooting at Pasir Lebar Camp. We had early lunch and headed to the Discovery Centre to gather with our schools. There, we found our platoon mates and had a sense of closeness. We therefore missed the flying practices for the day.

2nd day:
Same thing, we had meals and theory and flying. Those who missed flying practices the previous day had the advantage to fly first. Of course, i went up to try. Sir Nuh took me and i could only take off, and had difficulty controlling the plane. it crashed within one round. After that, I transferred to Sir Christopher's flying circle. He briefed me about how to fly and improve my flying. He assisted me to take off and let me take control of the plane. I could control it! It was very enriching and magical! Not only was Sir Christopher's briefing, my hard efforts into controlling it paid off! I was so worried I could not fly solo previously. Just after some time i could fly solo, i had my Instructor test. A Sec3 guy was my mechanic. He 'helped' me lose marks! I was complaining to my best flying partner of his launching. OH GOSH! Because of him I had a borderline pass. ):

3rd day:
That same guy from St. Gabriel's was the I/C. all 35 of us (soon-to-be-instructors) and all the instructors and CLTs could not stand his mad I/C-ing. All of us were wondering how he'd get his 2nd Sgt rank. It was quite 'bad', somehow. Nobody likes him. Those who'd flew the previous day and passed could go back to their bunks to slack. Of course not totally slack; we had to clean up the originally dirty bunks. The girls' bunk smelled full of deodorant, waiting for Sir's arrival to check bunk. In the end, he said that he couldn't enter there. But when we were changing into No.3, they actually knocked on the door to deliver leftover bread. Our attires were damn weird except for mine.
We brought our bags to the Aero-Modelling Centre and marched to the Theatrette. It was finally that we could march with both arms. Again, it was the guy who was the I/C. We were gossiping about him when Sir Zhan Hong said:"Rowena... Still talking huh..." I was like: OOPS!
We had Graduation Ceremony and we all three had both no.3 and no.4 wings. We were told that only the top 16 would get the no.3 badge, and everybody who passed will get the no.4 wing. Overall Best In Flying was Duan Feng from Chung Cheng High Yishun, which was expected from the start. Best In Theory was Len from Catholic High. He looked like somebody we all know.

Of course, not only we experienced this little, there are more funny scenes which are 'behind-the-scenes'. The thing which etched most deeply in my mind was our Platoon Commander, Sir Shawn. He had direction problems and we had to correct him. He only command us for the first day. He was so well-known of his smile, wherever he goes he will have a permanent smile. When he was not smiling, everybody will feel weird somehow.
